Understand and navigate the glossary

Learning Objectives

  • Cognitive Skills: Develop critical thinking and deepen comprehension by defining glossary terms.

Activities

  1. Glossary Exploration:
    • Provide students with a link to the Glossary of Montessori Terms.
    • Ask them to select 5 terms they find intriguing or challenging.
    • Students will write a brief definition of each term in their own words.
  2. Group Discussion:
    • Divide students into small groups (3-4 students).
    • Each student presents their selected terms and definitions.
    • Encourage peer feedback and discussion on the relevance of each term.
  3. Glossary Mapping:
    • Using large paper or digital whiteboard and colored markers, groups will create a concept map that visually connects the terms they discussed.
    • This should include definitions and relationships between terms.

Instructor Preparations

  • Prepare the link to the Montessori Glossary.
  • Prepare large sheets of paper and colored markers or a collaborative digital whiteboard for the concept mapping activity.
  • Arrange the class into small group areas to facilitate discussion.

Collaborate in the Collaboration Padlet

Activities

    • Students will post their comments on terms in the Collaboration Padlet, including a definition of the term and relevant citations.

  3. Reflection:
    • After the activity, students will write a short reflection on what they learned from their peers and how it can be applied to their teaching practice.

Instructor Preparations

  3. Compilation:
    • Create a collective term bank document incorporating all the terms presented.
    • As a class, vote on the most beneficial terms to keep in the final document to submit to the Montessori Glossary Community Project vocabulary.
